Connect once. Then just ask.
Remote MCP and WebMCP require a registered Diagramming AI account. Create an account and sign in before connecting. Guest or anonymous sessions cannot use these tools.
Connection URL for your AI app
Checking availability…
- In ChatGPT settings, enable developer mode if your account supports it, then create a custom app/plugin. Choose OAuth and paste the connection URL above as the MCP server URL.
- Select Connect. Sign in to Diagramming AI in the window that opens. You do not need to copy an API key or give the AI your password.
- Check the app name and return address. Choose “Read and save” to create or update diagrams, or “Read only” to inspect existing work. Select “Allow connection.”
- Return to your AI chat, enable Diagramming AI for that conversation if requested, and try a prompt below. If you have no project yet, ask the AI to create one.
Menu labels and availability vary by app version, plan and workspace. An administrator may need to enable custom connections. This is a custom connection, not a claim of inclusion in an app directory. Current official setup guide
Try these prompts
Use Diagramming AI to preview a Mermaid flowchart for request → review → approval. Do not save it yet.
Save that diagram privately in my Operations project as “Approval process”, and give me the editing link. Create the project if I do not have it yet.
Read my saved “Approval process” diagram, add a rejection path and show a preview. Ask me before updating the saved version.
Show the saved versions of that diagram. Restore version 1 as a new version after I confirm.
Work together on the same screen with WebMCP
Remote MCP works even when the website is closed. WebMCP offers tools from the page you currently have open. It uses your website login and can change the visible draft. They are two different ways to connect; WebMCP is not a remote MCP URL.
- Open Diagramming AI in a browser that supports WebMCP site tools. Sign in and open a project.
- In the editor, switch to Mermaid, open Settings, and turn on “Enable for this page” under “Edit with your AI · WebMCP.” You can return to Code or AI while connected. If that option is unavailable, use Remote MCP instead.
- Ask: “Read this editor and add a review step. Show the change on this page, but do not save yet.”
- Check the result, then ask to save or use the normal Save button. Turning off the switch, leaving the page or signing out removes these page tools.
WebMCP is still evolving. An ordinary Chrome tab or a Claude remote connector is not automatically a WebMCP browser. ChatGPT’s supported desktop browser offers site tools to eligible accounts/models; rollout and workspace restrictions apply. Check browser support
Saves, privacy and costs
- New diagrams are private. The connection cannot publish share links, delete diagrams or change billing. If you update a diagram you already shared, that existing share link shows the updated content.
- Access applies to all your projects, including source, notes and saved history. Only connect apps you intend to share this content with. Disconnecting stops future access; it does not remove copies already read by an AI app.
- Rendering and saving supplied Mermaid source do not use Diagramming AI generation credits. Your AI app’s own usage charges and your Diagramming AI project/diagram limits still apply. The website’s separate AI generation and auto-fix features can use credits.
- Server operations record the action, time, source (website, Remote MCP or WebMCP), result and saved version. Saved content is kept in private version history. Unsaved page edits are shown in the page’s recent activity and are not recoverable saved versions.
Open Settings → Recent activity to see saved changes first. Select All activity for previews and reads, or Needs attention for unsuccessful operations. Each record shows the diagram’s current name, saved version, source and time. Open the diagram to review its version history. Viewing this list does not create another activity record.

I cannot see a preview.
Some AI apps display images differently. Ask for the result and editor link. A render result alone has no saved link; ask to save first. Mermaid previews are supported; edit other diagram engines on the website.
The AI says there is a conflict.
Someone changed the saved diagram or you edited the live draft. Ask the AI to read the latest version and reconcile your changes. Your old work is not silently overwritten.
A save timed out.
Ask the AI to retry the same save with the same operation ID. This checks the existing result and avoids duplicate saves. Do not start a separate “save as new” until you know the outcome.
The website still shows the old diagram.
Remote MCP updates the saved document. It does not overwrite an open draft. Open the returned editing link in a new tab or reload the saved diagram after keeping any unsaved work.
The connection was revoked or is read-only.
Remove the connection in your AI app, then connect again. Choose “Read and save” if you need to save. Never paste website tokens, passwords or service keys into a chat.
